📅 624 CE | 3 AH
“When ‘Ubaydah had died after his single combat with ‘Utbah at the beginning of the battle of Badr, he had left a widow who was very much younger than himself, Zaynab, the daughter of Khuzaymah.
Zaynab Bint Khuzayma was the daughter of Khuzayma RA and the fifth wife of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). She was born in 595 CE and was the first wife of Prophet (PBUH) who did not belong to the Quraish tribe.
Zaynab Bint Khuzayma had married twice before marriage to Holy Prophet (PBUH) divorced and widowed in both respectively. She was of a very generous nature, and already before the days of Islam she had been known as “the mother of the poor”. A year after being widowed she was still unmarried, and when the Prophet ï·º asked her to marry him she gladly accepted.
She was called Ummul Masakeen due to her kind-heartedness and compassion for the poor. Prophet (PBUH) married her in 3 AH.
She died soon after her marriage and was laid to rest in Jannatul Baqi.
She was the first wife after Hazrat Khadija (R.A) to die before Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
